In this episode, we discuss body shaming an important term that was coined to describe the act of criticizing one's own body or another person in front of them or behind their back. We often minimalize the impact body shaming has on our mental health but it is at the root of eating disorders, low self-esteem, bullying, suicide, depression and Body Dysmorphia Disorder - a mental health disorder in which one can not stop thinking about one or more perceived defects or flaws in appearance. Body shaming goes beyond skinny or fat-shaming but includes other body features such as height, hair, skin colour, size of arms, legs, thigh gap, nose, butt, hips etc. We are joined with Tania Twinoburyo, a 20-year-old from South Africa and Uganda and contestant for Ms South Africa 2020. Tania sheds light on what body shaming is, her experiences with body shaming and how we can prevent the negative effects body shaming has on us.
