Education

Former Teacher Town Hall Session 2013 Recognizing that the voice of a teacher who has left the classroom is one that is rarely heard, this Teacher Town Hall conversation engaged several former teachers who were high performing in the classroom. Appreciating that when a high-quality teacher decides to leave the classroom, we lose on student outcomes, this panel of classroom teachers who were recognized as excellent educators but who chose to leave North Carolina2019s classrooms was one of the more moving, inspiring and thoughtful sessions from the 2014 Emerging Issues Forum. Moderated by John Merrow, Education Correspondent for PBS Newshour and President of Learning Matters, they discuss the reasons they chose to leave and what they think it will take to retain high-quality teachers in North Carolina.
