For this weeks Friday Release we have shared two clips. although they are two different stories in time and space, there are so many similarities and connections that they need to go together. the first one is of Rana ji. we have written about him on our blog and his name keeps coming up when we talk of uttarakhand. he is a poet/ activist who is working to create community based sustainable eco tourism in the Nanda devi region. this is was filmed outside his house, while he sang a song of protest from the Jhapto cheeno aandolan which he spearheaded many years ago. the second part was filmed in the village of reni. Rana ji took us to meet Bali Devi, one of the 30 odd women who was part of the Chipko movement. rana ji was also a part of it and merely 16 at that time. Bali Devi shared some stories of the movement and sang us a couple of songs that accompanied it. FRIDAY RELEASE is an endeavour to share raw footage from the u-ra-mi-li project. We'd like to give you a sample of the kind of stories we have and are looking for; some of these stories may make their way into the final film, others won't. Do tell us what you like, what you don't, what links you see between different kinds of music or visuals, what you've seen before, or what the clip reminds you of.
