Write them down to help you be clear about what it is you are feeling. So often we are scared of our feelings due to our analytical left brain dominated society where somehow the wisdom of the heart has been forgotten about.  It starts during our schooling years where the focus is maths, writing, reading, thinking, problem solving…..and yet, emotion, which is the driving force behind ALL of our decisions gets little or no attention. *The next step after allowing yourself to FEEL your emotions is to process and then discharge them in healthy ways.  This can be done with breath work to release the stress of what ever overwhelming emotion is being felt. *One technique to release stress is the 4-7-8 breath where you breathe in through your nose for a count of 4, hold your breath for a count of 7 and then release your breath with a sigh or a wooshing sound to the count of 8. Immediately breathe in again for a count of 4 and repeat. Do this for a cycle of 4 complete breaths. Or imagine your breath is like the tide gently lapping the pebbles of the shore, watch your belly slowly rise and fall as your breath comes in and out. You can use your breath too to focus on a peaceful scene in nature, or on people and things that you love and appreciate. *Another technique is to use Emotional Freedom Technique. This technique involves tapping on Chinese meridian points in a specific order while stating specific things similar to what is done in neurolinguistic programming (NLP). You can download a free app from your App Store called ’Tapping Solution’. This technique has many studies behind it (just google ‘pubmed EFT’ and you will find plenty.) *You can also drink structured water which has been imprinted with specific bioenergetic frequencies to help this heart brain communication system. Our body is 70% water, and water plays a crucial role in the healthy functioning of not only our physical body, but also our emotional body due to how hormones and neurotransmitters impact our emotions. *Use sound to release emotions, like vocal toning. In the Vedic system, the sound of the heart is ‘Haaa’ or ‘Yam’. You can chant/sing this sound in meditation and focus on the vibrations around your heart centre and imagine emotion being transformed and released.
