You may NOT know you are about ready to make an important decision. However, if the devil can succeed in getting you to yield to the temptation it will cause “fogginess” in your mind and spirit—and at times in your body! You can be sure that it will cost you! _____________________________________ HOW TO RESIST TEMPTATION PROTECTING YOUR BLESSING Many times your enemy, the devil, will try to tempt you right before you are about to make an important decision. (You may NOT know you are about ready to make an important decision.) You probably will NOT realize it at the time, but yielding to that temptation MAY cost you $1,000's of US Dollars (or Cedis, Francs, Shekels or Pounds) … OR … it may cost you a relationship. There is a reason you are being offered this temptation by Satan. You may be thinking, “It is just my body wanting to do fleshly things1,” OR “I just want to drive a hot car2,” OR “It will really make me look smart or cool3.” “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh1, the lust of the eyes2, and the pride of life3—comes not from the Father but from the world.” (1 John 2:15-16) Our beloved brother, James, tells us, “When tempted, no one should say, 'God is tempting me.' For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” It follows that IF we are offered temptation―being led into temptation―by the devil we will need to make sure we do NOT yield to it since that will be a sure sign we are either under the influence of the Evil One … OR … need deliverance from the evil one." In Matthew 6:13 Jesus admonished His followers to pray as follows: “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” What you must realize is that no matter how major or minor the temptation may seem … there is a reason you should resist it! THINK ABOUT IT KNOW the importance of resisting temptation … if you yield to temptation it will cost you one ... OR … all of the following: Fellowship with God Money Relationship Joy Peace Blessing Guidance or direction Health Favor Confidence Be God's friend. God will lead you IF you are living holy. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41) Eve―and then Adam―had fallen for the lie of the devil; and had participated in the things of the world. “When the woman [Eve] saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food [lust of the flesh] and pleasing to the eye [lust of the eyes], and also desirable for gaining wisdom [pride of life], she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband [Adam], who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.” (Genesis 3:6-7) The Bible tells us that Adam and Eve experienced shame for the first time after they sinned in the Garden. “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.” (Genesis 3:8) SUGGESTION Now let me give you a suggestion. If you really want to resist temptation, God will help you. Sometimes it is a “progression.” For example, you may have to grow in the process. So do NOT give up. The rewards of being free and NOT being a slave to temptation are too great for you to be defeated and lose opportunities for blessing. Especially the “closeness” you will experience with the LORD as you walk in holiness. Turn … go the right direction … and the blessings will follow. Remember, you can speak with authority to the devil and say, “The LORD rebuke you Satan. But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” (Jude 1:9) And declare aloud, God tells me, “Be holy because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16) And, IF you're being tempted, you might want to talk to yourself. TALK TO YOURSELF “Is the temptation I am facing worth more than my fellowship with God and His blessing?” “Since Jesus loved me so much that He died for me on the cross-stake and shed His sinless BLOOD to pay for my sins, shouldn't I want to live for Him?” “Why don't I let God deliver me from this situation?” “Call upon me in the day of trouble, I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”(Psalm 50:15) You need to make your departure from the temptation at the point of decision. Do NOT hesitate. Just as you would flee a murderer threatening your life, flee temptation! Run away FAST and IMMEDIATELY! Study my “Mini Book” [99 cent Fast Read] titled, Preventing Bad Forests.
