Mark takes no time to preface his Gospel account or detail the events leading up to Jesus’ public ministry. He begins instantly with the Spirit empowered mission of Jesus to enter into a cosmic struggle with Satan and rescue the captives. In Mark 3:7-35, through a series of demonstrations of his true authority and the beginning of Jesus’ parables in Mark, we see that Jesus is the long foretold Mighty One of Jacob come to bind Satan, establishing a new family in Himself constituted by God’s Spirit, which empowers us to join Jesus on his mission.
