On Tuesday, September 16, 2014, the City of Kankakee hosted a multipart panel discussion to explore the problems of housing in the city. The theme of part four was "Moving Kankakee Forward". Panel members John Gruhn of Farmers Bank of Danforth, Carl Brown, Kankakee 7th ward alderman, Kankakee Mayor Nina Epstein, Kari Nugent of Community Foundation of Kankakee River Valley, Scott Snavely of Midland State Bank, Amy LaFine, of Presence St. Mary's Hospital, Sylvia Barajas of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Dr. Genevra Walters, Superintendant of Kankakee School District 111, and Chris Curtis, realtor and Kankakee 6th ward alderman.
