Black women are notoriously policed for their bodies and sexual habits at a young age. But as the new age Black feminism comes into the mainstream we see many women of color but specifically, BLACK WOMEN owning their bodies (sorry not sorry Lana Dey Ray). This policing is a byproduct of slavery, where many White masters and mistresses had full access to do whatever or tell the enslaved to do whatever they wanted. The Enslaved often had no license to their bodies. Following Emancipation, African-American women struggled to fit European standards of beauty and we see further policing. The Harlem Renaissance mixed both sexual liberation with recreational drug use like cannabis. By the end of the era, both in ways had been made illicit to all people but especially African Americans.Today, my guest and I talk more about sex, cannabis, mental health, and policing. We take a look at three things that have just started ending their taboos within the Black community especially for women. So listen up and enjoy!Want to connect with me or my guest?
