When most guests enter Laurel Highlands Meadery in Irwin or Greensburg, they have no familiarity with mead, the world's oldest alcoholic drink. After they sample some of their varied and delicious flavors, however, they become mead fans for life. We sit down with Matt Falenski, owner and mazer (a cool word for mead maker) to learn all about the history of this amazing beverage, the care that goes into developing new flavors, building a new outdoor space and even his relationship with meaderies across the U.S. and even into Japan.
