Sucharita Tyagi Movie Reviews

TV & Film

Chiyaan Vikram’s son IRL, Dhruv Vikram, plays Dadabhai Naoroji, named after another Indian freedom fighter, a nationalist. I won't reveal what his conflict slash motive for actions is, but it never sits quite right. For all the Gandhian principles he’s grown up with, the man is a stone-cold psychopath. Again a depth the film could have explored, what do ideologies really mean? Can we mold things according to the changing world, or must we maintain the purity and sanctity of tried and tested teachings of people who proved themselves without a shadow of doubt?

Instead, the whole second half plays out like an acting showreel for Dhruv Vikram. He’s a good-looking man, who is a better film will most certainly be very very watchable, but here everything seems too much of a tailored fit around him, the film loses all authenticity and heart, once the son returns.
