Microsoft Japan Partners With Startup to Increase Domestic Blockchain Uptake - The Japanese arm of computer giant Microsoft has partnered with nascent blockchain startup LayerX to “accelerate” uptake of the technology, reported Nov. 30. -------------------------- Mike Novogratz, ex-Goldman Sachs partner and founder of Galaxy Digital, has said that he expects cryptocurrency to “flip next year” in an interview published by Financial Times (FT) Nov. 23. During the interview, Novogratz said that “this year has been challenging” for Galaxy Digital –  a company that he hopes will become “the Goldman Sachs of crypto” – adding that “it sucks to build a business in a bear market.” --------------------------- Major Canadian jewellery manufacturer and retailer Birks Group has also recently begun accepting Bitcoin, via a partnership with U.S. crypto payment processor BitPay. Birks, which has operated since 1879, will initially accept the largest cryptocurrency in eight of its 30 domestic stores in Canada. ------------------------- Decentralised internet protocol TRON announced its plans to launch a blockchain gaming fund dubbed TRON Arcade in a press release shared with Cointelegraph Nov. 29. TRON Arcade, which the company says is designed to “empower developers,” will see investment totalling a giant $100 million over the next three years. The move is another long-term commitment from TRON, which acquired file sharing giant BitTorrent earlier this year. ---------------------------- Social networking platform Steemit is laying off more than 70 percent of its staff due to the cryptocurrency market crash, and is beginning a structural reorganization, according to a Nov. 28 video post by Steemit CEO Ned Scott.   -------------------------------- E-commerce giant Amazon announced the debut of two new services, Amazon Quantum Ledger Database (QLDB) and Amazon Managed Blockchain, according to a press release Nov. 28. QLDB is a ledger database designed to provide transparent, immutable, and cryptographically verifiable log of transactions, which is overseen by a central trusted authority. All changes are purportedly recorded on chain, while the new product is also able to automatically scale and execute two to three times more transactions than already existing products.
