The unbeaten and GHSA 4A No. 3-ranked Troup Tigers (2-0) host the Harris Co. Tigers (2-1) Thursday at Callaway Stadium to kick off another big weekend of high school football.Coach Tanner Glisson’s Tigers have been unstoppable in its first games, scoring 59 and 68 points in consecutive wins over Ridgeland and Columbus High. Glisson is in his fifth season at Troup and he and his staff have done a remarkable job turning the Tigers into a state power.Coach Jamie Fox’s Harris Co. Tigers defeated Carver and Westside-Macon before falling last week at Upson-Lee.Troup has dominated the 33-game series, leading 27-5-1. Troup pounded Harris Co. last year 53-6.All-American quarterback Kobe Hudson leads the Tigers offense and has been nothing short of sensational. Hudson has completed 23-of-34 passes for 551 yards and eight TDs with three interceptions. He’s also a threat to score from anywhere on the field and has rushed for 297 yards on 21 carries and four more scores. Troup’s running game has been deadly, averaging 440.5 yards per game (881 yards).Troup is in its 64th year of football and has amassed an overall record of 337-321-8. The Tigers have won three region championships — 1972, 1986 & 1987.In other action this week, LaFayette (1-1, 1-0) will open region play hosting Thorsby at Bulldog Stadium Friday.In other Friday contests, Valley (1-2, 1-0) will entertain Greenville in a key region game at Rams Stadium while Lanett (3-0, 1-0) also continues region play hosting Autaugaville at Morgan-Washburn Stadium. In other big games Friday, Beulah (2-1, 0-1) looks to rebound this week in a region game at Prattville Christian.In AISA play, No. 3-ranked Chambers Academy (3-0) hosts Cornerstone Christian as coach Jason Allen’s team opens region play. The CA seniors are 24-0 at home and are currently on the greatest run by any local team in history. The Rebels just passed last week 19,000 yards of team rushing since the ‘15 season. Last week’s 45-20 win over Abbeville gave CA a record of 50-5 since ‘15. They have been remarkable and gunning for a back-to-back perfect season, state championship seasons.The Springwood Wildcats (2-1) head to Edgewood to take on the green and yellow-clad Wildcats. SW won the first 11 games of the series before Edgewood — under Bobby Carr — won the next 13 games. Edgewood leads the series with Springwood 15-13. Coach John Gartman’s Springwood team has won two of the last three meetings with Edgewood.In 2010 and 2011, Springwood had two great chances to end what was Edgewood’s amazing winning streak (reached 69 games over six seasons).In 2010, Springwood led 21-20 with under a minute left before Edgewood went the length of the field to score on the game-winning TD pass with just seconds leftIn 2011, Springwood rallied in the second-half to hold a 21-14 lead and had the ball at the Edgewood 4-yard line and first-and-goal to score again after a Blake Glaze interception. Unfortunately for Wildcat fans, Springwood couldn’t add to its lead and ended up losing 42-28.
