Edward Ball was the estate manager for Alfred I. duPont, who had a reputation for pinching pennies and treating every transaction as if it was a business deal. He was a great financial manager, with questionable political allies. He used the power of his position to wield as much power over politics as he could. He never wanted to get his hands dirty himself, so he bought politicians to do it for him. It was today, March 23, 1941 that Ed Ball bought over 600 acres of land in Matecumbe, Little Torch and Sugarloaf Keys. And that's what happened Today in Key West History.
