Music

It took me a while to track Roy Down. Roy Venkatarman was a name I heard often when I was growing up in India in the 80’ and 90’s I knew of him as the Indian guitar player for BoB Marleys’s band the wailers. He and was widely considered Reggae Royalty at least here in India. Roy was born in India and started his career in Bombay , playing with some of the most popular bands in the country and then moved to the U.S where he garnered a wealth of experience playing and recording with artists including Atlantis, and Keith Benson and a whole host of others. Roy then cofounded the groundbreaking Indo Jazz band Divya, with Fazal Queresh and Ranjit Barot. They played some of the biggest Jazz festivals in the world including the Jazz Yatra in India. A few years later Roy worked with the legendary Louis Banks as a sessions guitarist doing countless jingles and corporate films. Roy was then invited to join Bob Marley’s wailers band and toured the world with them. He even did some film work, scoring music for  SCI-FI Hindi film. Roy then went on to tour with Jeremy Spencer the founder of Fleetwood Mac. Roy now lives in Sydney Australia, where he makes music under the studio name Buzz Bahadur. I had the privilege of listening to some of his new music that’s an eclectic mix of jazz, Sufi and electronica. The music you hear in the intro to this podcast is from Roy’s new album.I caught with Roy and we traced his multi decade career from Mumbai to Sydney . ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow Tales from the Road on Facebook | Instagram  Listen to more episodes on Spotify | Apple Podcasts | Google | Gaana |Audible Also check us out on our website tftrmedia.com Hosted and produced by Vikram Chandrasekar and Moving Pictures Media
