We’re talking about Books That Make You Rethink the Private Lives of Historical Figures Gay people have done extraordinary things across history, in science, art, sports, literature, social justice, military conquest and more. Very often, though, the nature of their orientation was not included in history books, or revealed or discussed at all. Oftentimes, those writing history were biased against, didn’t see, or couldn’t imagine anyone leading lives different from themselves. Lee Wind is the author of “No Way, They Were Gay?: Hidden Lives and Secret Loves.” which launches readers on an edifying journey through primary sources—poetry, memoir, news clippings, and images of ancient artwork—to explore the hidden Queer lives and loves of two dozen historical figures. He is also the author of the crowd-funded YA novel “Queer as a Five-Dollar Bill,” featured as a Publishers Weekly Indie Success Story. In October 2021, he will also publish his upcoming picture book “Red and Green and Blue and White”. During the day, he works for the Independent Book Publishers Association as their director of marketing and programming, and as the main blogger for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
