After independence, the overall situation of the country also affected Bengali theatre. After Gananatya collapsed, there was an attempt to start a movement called Navanatya. On the other hand, theatre groups focus on one particular theatre persona began to form at different places. In the nineties, due to the impact of globalization, the character of Bengali theatre changed drastically, Bengali theatre began a new journey of its own.

স্বাধীনতা লাভের পরে দেশের সামগ্রিক পরিস্থিতির প্রভাব পড়েছিল বাংলা নাটকেও। গণনাট্য ভেঙে গিয়ে তখন নবনাট্য নামে এক আন্দোলন চালনার প্রয়াসও দেখা গেলো। অন্যদিকে ব্যক্তিকে কেন্দ্র করে নানান জায়গায় মুড়ি-মুড়কির মতো নাটকের দল গড়ে উঠতে লাগলো। নব্বইয়ের দশকে বিশ্বায়নের প্রভাবে বাংলা নাটকের ভোল পালটে গেল আমূল, বাংলা নাটক পরিচালিত হতে লাগলো এক নতুন পথে।
