Samson is the anti-type of Christ. He is divinely conceived, dedicated, gifted, empowered, protected and led and yet his priorities, affections and values are never expanded beyond his own self interests. God, in his grace, overlooked Samson’s selfish and sinful behavior over and over again despite Samson’s desire to not be chosen and special. The story of Samson is a story to which our normal response would be, “But God doesn’t work this way”. But he did in his sovereign grace for his ultimate purposes. This should give us hope in viewing the behavior of our national leaders, and in dealing with the loves and affections of our own hearts.
