STEM Seeds Podcast (audio)

Education

In our second STEM seeds webcast, Nevada educator and regional K-12 STEM coordinator Brian Crosby (@bcrosby on Twitter) shared STEM lesson ideas he's used in his classroom and with other teachers. He also discussed "what STEM is and what it isn't," since that is often a point of misunderstanding among educators, and discussed several exciting collaborative projects he's done and is continuing to do with regional university partners as well as other educators. Brian is the co-author (with Lisa Parisi) of "Making Connections with Blogging: Authentic Learning for Today’s Classrooms," published in 2012 by ISTE. Brian has presented twice at TEDx conference events, "Back to the Future" in 2010 at TEDxDenver and in March 2011 at TEDxNYED. Lessons discussed included Cantilever Spans, Balloons that go up to 100,000' MSL while taking photos and sharing live GPS tracking coordinates, Kuiper Belt trans-Neptunian object (TNO) tracking, and more. Check out our show notes below, as well as our Show Notes Google Doc for links to referenced resources and lesson ideas.
