Stop Child Abuse Now

Miscellaneous

Tonight's special guests are Kathy and Richard Butler from Atlanta, Georgia, the founders of 'Comfort In The Storm', dedicated to providing child sexual abuse prevention and awareness training for parents and caregivers. "We are credentialed advocates and the parents of a survivor," Kathy writes. "We currently provide daily prevention and awareness tips on our social media platforms-IG/FB Comfortinthestorm. We are co-authors of 'Hush No More', the book, and we are also featured in the documentary." Kathy attended the Child Advocacy Studies program at Athens State University. Kathy also completed the Office for the Victims of Crime's advocacy training and NOVA's Victim Assistance Academy. Richard served for 17 years as a Senior Recreation Director for Los Angeles Unified School District and provided support to some of the district's most at-risk youth. In 2008, Kathy and Richard's daughter disclosed that she had been sexually abused by a family member. They were devastated, and felt like they had failed as parents. They discovered there were very few resources to help them navigate the journey for them and their child. So, they became the change they wanted to see. The two started a blog that chronicled their interactions with law enforcement, social services, the (in)justice system, as well as their individual and family healing process. But they needed to know how a predator was able to harm their child right under their noses without them knowing. So, they began taking any and every class they could find on child sexual abuse. Ultimately, they launched 'Comfort In The Storm,' a comprehensive Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and Awareness training program. They also offer peer support for parents of survivors.
