Isaiah 49:1-7 (NKJV) 1  "Listen, O coastlands, to Me, And take heed, you peoples from afar! The LORD has called Me from the womb; From the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name. 2  And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword; In the shadow of His hand He has hidden Me, And made Me a polished shaft; In His quiver He has hidden Me." 3  "And He said to me, 'You are My servant, O Israel, In whom I will be glorified.' 4  Then I said, 'I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and in vain; Yet surely my just reward is with the LORD, And my work with my God.' " 5  "And now the LORD says, Who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, To bring Jacob back to Him, So that Israel is gathered to Him (For I shall be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, And My God shall be My strength), 6  Indeed He says, 'It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.' " 7  Thus says the LORD, The Redeemer of Israel, their Holy One, To Him whom man despises, To Him whom the nation abhors, To the Servant of rulers: "Kings shall see and arise, Princes also shall worship, Because of the LORD who is faithful, The Holy One of Israel; And He has chosen You."   John 1:29-42 (NKJV) 29  The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30  This is He of whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.' 31  I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water." 32  And John bore witness, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. 33  I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' 34  And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God." 35  Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. 36  And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, "Behold the Lamb of God!" 37  The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38  Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, "What do you seek?" They said to Him, "Rabbi" (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), "where are You staying?" 39  He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour). 40  One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41  He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated, the Christ). 42  And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, "You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas" (which is translated, A Stone).
