Business Mastermind Podcast

Business

On this episode Gavin is joined by entrepreneur and venture capitlaist Real Bricker, who now delivers workshops on building businesses and thinking outside the norm with experiences ranging from working 6000 feet underground to building an educational business with six campuses and 4000 students. The pair talk about the future of work and the importance of culture. KEY TAKEAWAYS I’ve always wanted to know how my role, such as working as an engineer 6000 feet down a mine shift, impacted on the gold we were getting out of the ground and on the greater organisation. So, I left the mines to do an MBa… not that makes you a specialist or even an entrepreneur. I did get to understand HR though. I love motivational speaking because I get to see the lights turn on in people’s eyes, I want to see them get it and say: “I can be successful in business”. The key to growing my businesses has been giving up control to gain control. As soon as we started outsourcing certain tasks, it freed us up to grow the business. Putting trust in the right people and empowering them really makes a difference. I never ask staff to do something I wouldn’t do. I’ve had staff that have messed up or staff that have taken advantage, but by opening up yourself as the boss (the good, the bad and the ugly) and being real with people it keeps your finger on the pulse of what’s going on with your staff and your business. Don’t overcomplicate your systems. If you can’t explain the way your business works on one A4 piece of paper, it’s too complicated. Also, communication is king and certainly don’t lie or bend the truth, the truth will always out.   BEST MOMENTS ‘Business is simple, sometimes you just have to dive in and adjust your course.’ ‘Give up control to gain control.’ ‘I was in the right place at the right time to start up the educational business, but not by design.’ ‘It’s an amazing feeling to be able to give back and make an impact and positive change.’ ‘When did you last ask your staff about a better way to implement processes, or how their families are?’ VALUABLE RESOURCES The Business Mastermind Podcast To get 20% off at Knowable, go to www.knowable.fyi and enter the code GAVIN Get your copy of Survive And Thrive NOW at https://www.surviveandthrive.cc Keep Your Boat Afloat – https://survivetothrive.biz/keep-afloat gavin@gavinpreston.com GUEST RESOURCES Rael Bricker’s website where you can get a free copy of his book ‘Dive In’: https://www.raelbricker.com/freebook Rael’s email address: rael@raelbricker.com Twitter: @raybri Instagram: @raelbricker Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rael.bricker Clubhouse: @raelbricker ABOUT THE HOST Gavin Preston Gavin is an inspirational Speaker, Business Strategist, Business Growth Mentor, Trainer and high-performance Coach.  He works with Business Owners and Entrepreneurs and has a strong track record in creating the creative strategies to accelerate growth of their business.
