In the first episode of our Golden Man Booker Prize podcasts, host Joe Haddow delves into this one-off spacial anniversary prize's shortlist. We start with judge Simon Mayo announcing the 'Golden Five' shortlist live at Hay Festival. Joe then catches up with judges Robert McCrum about his selected shortlisted novel from the 1970s, In a Free State by V.S. Naipaul, Hollie McNish about the 2017 winner Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders and the recently announced winner of the Women's Prize For Fiction, Kamila Shamsie on her selected novel from the 1990s The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje.
