The Laodicean church had become so self centred, and so taken up with the things of the world, that they had left the Saviour out of their worship, their witness and their work. As far as the believers in the church, they felt that they didn't need the Lord, and so shut Him out of all that they did. He was like a stranger seeking entrance into the church.
