The Christchurch massacre in New Zealand is a terrible tragedy, full stop. The reaction, less than a week later, is Internet censorship, harsh legal penalties for sharing and hosting the video on 4 chan, 8 chan, Voat, etc. while Facebook carried the live stream , and the vilification of large swathes of Aussies and Kiwis based upon skin colour. First, Perspective. Since 1 January 2016, there have been 5,320 terror attacks around the world, and 34,990 fatalities according to storymaps.esri.com, which cites open source data from wikipedia. 26,950 deaths, or 77% of the total are attributed to Muslim extremists groups including Al-Qaeda, Al-Shabaab, Boko Haram, Islamic State, PKK, or The Taliban. The "Other" category includes attacks committed by organizations not named above. Both Christchurch and the Utrecht shooting, covered later, are in this category. The "Unknown" category includes unclaimed attacks and attacks committed by unidentified organizations and/or individuals. Second, The Unfolding of the Massacre for those who are unaware. Third, the reaction has seen a significant increase in government censorship, fueled division along religious and ethnic lines. It isn't enough to report the story, today's media conduct personal attacks on those they don't agree with, in a blatant attempt to lessen empathy for the subject. Not that this guy or his site are full of angels, but who benefits from this smear? According to the article above, "New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern" has warned "that anyone caught downloading or distributing such material — especially the killer’s 17 minute bodycam footage — faces up to 10 years jail." The New Zealand PMs warning has fallen on deaf ears in Turkey as President Erdogan airs mosque shooting video at rallies, threatens New Zealand, Australia in front of tens of thousands of supporters during 7 election rallies. Only a few hours after Erdogan's inflammatory rhetoric a Turkish national shot and killed 3 and injured 2 more on a tram in historic Utrecht, The Netherlands.
