Semi-Intellectual Musings

Education

Guest co-host Anthony Von Dessauer, creator of the popular podcast The Curse of Silverlake, joins Phil to discuss music preservation, art, the potential impacts of technology, and the stratified character of our society. How art gets commercially made and distributed is a contested domain. Luckily for us avid music lovers, an Archive.org project seeks to digitize and democratize some of the greatest music ever made. Join us as we explore the fuzzy boundaries of who produces, who consumes, and who profits when art becomes more widely available. Somehow we managed to also talk about driverless trucks, peeing in a bottle, and a fantastic metal band Cyborg Octopus. We intended to talk about a 78rpm record project, we swear.   Links to songs we played, which are all repositoried at http://great78.archive.org: https://archive.org/details/78_la-bamba_marga-llergo-rafael-mendez---his-trumpet-and-pan-american-orchestra_gbia0008140a https://archive.org/details/78_mack-the-knife_louis-armstrong-his-all-stars-louis-armstrong-blitzstein-weill-t_gbia0030848b https://archive.org/details/78_minnie-the-moocher-theme-song_cab-calloway-and-his-orch.-cab-calloway-c.-calloway_gbia0003944a https://archive.org/details/78_house-of-the-rising-sun_josh-white-and-his-guitar_gbia0001628b   Concluding thought: Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without. ― Confucius   -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow #PodernFamily #Podmosphere, #UnderDogPods, and #2PodsADay on Twitter and Facebook for the best in indie podcasts.
