Our compilation show is a deep dive with host, Trent Reinsmith, into the bigger news and goings on in MMA, both inside and outside the cage; presented with a critical, unbiased eye. Here is some detail on what’s going on here... the “regular” ‘C’mon Now MMA Podcast’ is a daily podcast of varying lengths, which can be found here: cmonnow.substack.com/. This show, however, is a compilation of some of the best topics covered on the daily show over the past week. This week’s “Best of” #UFC257 edition is a two-parter: * Part one is a discussion of Dana White’s UFC 257 post-fight press conference. * Part two is a discussion of the main event fighters at UFC 257; Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor Part 1: Dana White 1. Dana White makes sure to hit the myth that "money ruins fighters" 2. Dana White admits Khabib Nurmagomedov is retired 3. Dana White says Khabib Nurmagomedov is not going to come back 4. I think Khabib Nurmagomedov remains retired unless the Georges St-Pierre fight is offered 5. The differences between Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor and Dana White 6. Khabib Nurmagomedov focuses on competition, Conor McGregor focuses on the trappings of fame 7. Dana White doesn’t know how to motivate a fighter any way other than to offer them cash 8. C’mon now - Dana White thinks fighters will get hurt doing back flips in celebration 9. Dana White’s story about Ottman Azaitar and his teammate scaling balconies starts to fall apart 10. C’mon now - Dana White acts like he was the one speaking about Dustin Poirier to the media because no one wanted to talk about Poirier. 11. How the MMA media can easily stop spreading Dana White’s lies and helping turn those lies to truths 12. Dana White, who has violated #COVID-19 safety protocols since the start of the pandemic, is a hypocrite and no one has called him on it — not #UFC, not #NSAC, not Abu Dhabi. Why? Part 2: Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor 1. The first fight between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor was the changing point of Poirier’s career 2. Dustin Poirier had the psychological edge over Conor McGregor 3. Dustin Poirier says he is not a fighter, fighting is something he does. That change has worked well for him in his fighting career 4. There is nothing negative to say about Dustin Poirier’s performance at UFC 257 5. Dustin Poirier is only going to get more comfortable with himself and that is going to benefit him in every way. 6. A question for you... Was Dustin Poirier’s performance on Fight Island better than Max Holloway’s performance? 7. How much did a loss at UFC 257 cost Conor McGregor? 8. Does Conor McGregor need to change things around his training? 9. Is Conor McGregor surrounded by “yes men"? 10. The difference between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov, from a fighter who trained with both 11. What I need to see to believe that Conor McGregor is a “changed man” — a humble man. I’m not buying it right now 12. How can Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier have almost the same changes in their lies and react in opposite ways? 13. Conor McGregor doesn’t get points for being humble in defeat, but a prick in victory - some examples 14. My preference would be for Conor McGregor to improve or retire. Training and just looking good getting out of a Rolls doesn’t mean anything on fight night.
