5-time NCAA Champion and 2-time ITA National Coach of the Year Peter Smith joins the podcast to chat about coaching philosophy, how to handle pressure moments on court, his favorite tennis drills and much more! Now in his 17th season at the helm of the Men's Tennis program at the University of Southern California, Coach Smith's teams have always had the ability to rise to the occasion and play their best in the biggest moments, culminating in a 4 year run of National Championships from 2009-2012 (and another one in 2014). It was a privilege to unpack some of the core values and coaching strategies of his that helps him have the success that he's had at the top of Division I college tennis. Peter served as the head coach at Long Beach State (his alma mater), Fresno State and Pepperdine before becoming a Trojan 17 years ago. Among his many accolades, he's the only coach in NCAA history to lead four tennis programs to top 25 national rankings. During his career he's coached a number of top collegiate players that have gone on to have extremely successful professional careers as well - Steve Johnson, Robert Farah and Robin Lindstedt just to name a few. I learned a ton having this conversation with Coach Smith and I hope you can a lot out of this talk as well.
