It was a cold September day, the race weather report called for snow and below freezing temperatures at Squaw Valley. We put on our layers and headed out to the race start. Gordon, a seasoned Spartan veteran, and me, a first-timer already on the verge of panic attack ran over the start line and off we went. Little did I know at the time Gordon was carrying a surprise in his camelback the ENTIRE race. We crossed the finish line of the Spartan World Championship. I bent over to catch my breath and looked around for the love of my life and then... you'll have to listen to the episode to catch the rest.
