There's been a biosecurity incursion at the port of Townsville in North Queensland. Another nest of Asian honey bees, carrying the parasitic varroa mite has been found by local surveillance staff. It's been estimated that varroa mite could threaten up to eight billion dollars worth of Australian food production that relies on pollination by the European honey bee, which is highly susceptible to the mite.
