Western Australia wants access to federal government funding allocated to the Murray Darling Basin Plan. Water minister Dave Kelly says WA deserves a piece of the basin's one-and-a-half billion dollar, off-farm efficiency program, designed to return water to the environment throughout the Basin. Federal water minister Keith Pitt says it's bizarre that WA thinks it should have access to that funding. WA water minister Dave Kelly says the federal government has a bias towards water projects in the eastern states. He says over the last decade the federal government has spent over $14 billion on water infrastructure on the east coast and virtually nothing in WA. The CEO of the Brazilian meat processing giant JBS says while some people like to make a lot of 'noise' about animal welfare standards, it prefers to deal in facts and the fact is JBS's animal welfare standards are gold star. Brent Eastwood is head of the Australian division of JBS and his comments follow a recent call from mining billionaire Andrew Forrest challenging JBS to commit to "no pain no fear" animal welfare. It's all part of the battle for control of the Tasmanian salmon company Huon Aquaculture.
