Kidney stones can spoil the quality fo your life.Prevention is the best way to mananage it .If you take care of your water intake ,prevent diabetes ,hypertension and maintain your body weight ,you are cutting down on risk factors. Every episode of kidney stone increases the risk of more episodes. Urinary tract infection is a known risk factor. Important things you must know 30 to 50 out of 100 people with a kidney stone are at risk of having another within five years.80% of all kidney stones are made of calcium Uric acid stones are about  5 to 10 %. Decreasing dietary calcium is bad for health. But you can decrease oxalates in your diet and prevent the calcium oxalate stones. Foods containing a high amount of oxalate are rhubarb, parsley, walnuts, spinach, and chocolate. Calcium supplements need to be taken after doctor's consultation.It's important to know what kind of stone you have, to make dietary changes accordingly. It's not the same for everyone.Avoid soft drinks. They can form hard kidney stones.Low sodium diet is recommended.Animal protein intake should be properly regulated in those with a high risk of kidney stone formation.
