This cast OMG. I cannot claim to be familiar with actor Samuthirakani’s work, at all. A pitiable character right from the start, jiska bachey tak mazaak bana kar nikal jaatey hain, and he doesn’t know what to do except extracting themselves from the situation. The actor does complete justice to an excellent character arc, fully succeeds in becoming our entry point into the story. He keeps trying to help the falsely accused man, but only keeps making it worse, Samuthirakani’s body language changes, as he finally in his life, so close to retirement, begins to question the many injustices he’s known happen all around him, within a casteist, classist, sexist and powerful police department. A story that I believe is inspired by real-life instances.
Writer is a slow burn, but one which must be felt. It might succeed in making you think about your own place in the very corrupt systems we’re all a part of, proactively or otherwise, and a film which makes you think is a good film at the end of it, no?
