CCIRA Literacy Conversations

Education

"The conventions are where reading and writing crash together." -Jeff Anderson Molly sits down with Jeff Anderson at the CCIRA Conference to talk about writing, the role of observation, and grammar as a form of expression. Jeff and Molly discuss how Molly can use grammar and punctuation as skills in real ways so her science students can express themselves. Jeff's passion for writing not being about right and wrong is inspiring as he makes writing instruction more about noticing what grammar conventions do for us as writers and how that gives our students the opportunity to express themselves. Jeff emphasizes the reading-writing connection and the value that has for writing instruction and how conversation helps our students be conscious about what other writers do to make meaning and how students can harness that themselves. *As with several recent episodes, there are some gaps where our recording failed. We apologize for the gaps in clarity this creates.
