Love Sober Podcast 149 Bex Weller - Chameleon

In this episode Mandy talks with the very inspiring Harrison Ward, also known as Fell Foodie @fellfoodie, who discovered a love of the mountains just as his life had hit rock bottom. A sufferer from crippling depression and suicidal thoughts since puberty, life spiralled out of control in early adulthood as he turned to alcohol to sedate his mind. By age 20, he was regularly consuming over 20 pints a day, was a full time smoker and had ballooned to 22 stone. A major life change in 2016, after coming to terms that he had become an alcoholic, brought him home to Cumbria. After vowing to leave booze and lethargy behind, he threw himself into a life of fitness. A close friend then introduced him to hiking the local fells. A new passion was ignited and a fresh lifestyle began that remains to this day. Harrison is now over 5 years sober and can often be found merging his lifelong passion for cooking with his contemporary appreciation for the outdoors, producing restaurant-quality dishes in remote locations. On this episode of the pod wanted to revisit absolute shero to the sober community, Laura Willoughby MBE co-founder of Club Soda, the mindful drinking movement. The Festival is coming up soon- it will be fully online and we will be involved at some point ? Club Soda has 30,000 active members, 5,000 pubs and 200 drinks brands registered. It has made fundamental changes to way sobriety is being viewed in British society, campaigning for real tasty alternatives to be provided for people that do not drink and to make pubs inclusive spaces for all people. Club Soda also works to provide a space for people to think about their drinking, and how they drink around others to be mindful. They have groups on facebook for those who want to go alcohol free or drink less, and hold regular meetups around the UK. The Mindful drinking festival attracted 10,000 visitors this year, the tide is changing, and Laura and her team have been instrumental in bringing alcohol free living into the mainstream.
