This week on the show we discuss proposed regulation changes for the 2021-2022 hunting season. One of the major proposed changes for whitetail deer is to allow deer management permits to be used in all counties across the state as opposed to only select counties as the previous regulation allowed. Another proposal relating to whitetail deer is to eliminate the restriction on harvesting does on public land after the beginning of the 7 day firearm season. This will allow hunters to still only harvest one doe on public land; however, they will be permitted to harvest that doe at any time during the season. Turkey regulations are proposed to only allow one turkey to be harvested on public land during the spring season. They are also planning to continue with the earlier starting date for spring turkey, meaning season opens on a Saturday instead of a Monday. We have yet to see how this earlier start will impact harvest numbers, but we are hopeful that it will allow more hunters to have more opportunities at harvesting a spring gobbler. Jeff also briefly touches on a few waterfowl regulation changes including the proposed changes to goose season that will hopefully allow hunters in the southeastern part of the state a better opportunity to harvest snow geese in the latter part of the year.
