Explosive power and speed are crucial for fight athletes. Many fundamental movements of combat sports require an explosive component to be effective. The most recognised fighters harness these qualities to connect with a lethal knee, evade an opponents attack or deliver the knockout blow. Becoming the best at combat sport requires training the qualities that contribute to these movements. Plyometric training is considered advanced because athletes need to have proficient strength and stability through any movement pattern before adding any explosive component.Plyometric training uses exercises that involve explosive power and speed involve jumps, bounds, sprints, change of direction drills, and med ball throw exercises. Joseph Coyne shares his experience training these qualities in athletes. We talk about how he incorporates plyometric exercises in warm-ups for training and competition, use them to improve performance, and how they will help us avoid injury. In this episode we discussDefining plyometric actionWhere plyometrics can be applied in sportDeveloping powerStructuring plyometrics in warm-upsWarm-Ups for competitionHow you compare to the elite in the sport?Where do you start training plyometrics?‘Windows of opportunity’Progressions of plyometricsGood at sport vs good athleteIdentifying strength and power needs of an athleteHow developing power will help you performVolume and dose of plyometricsLinks and resourcesInstagram: @josephcouneTwitter: @josephcoyneWebsite: Coyne Sports Injury & Performance ClinicInstagram: @the_ASCATwitter: @the_aSCAFacebook: @australianstrengthandconditioningWebsite: ASCAIf you are a regular listener of the podcast...If you regularly enjoy listening to Fighters Performance Podcast, I'd love it if you could take a moment to give back.If you could leave a review on iTunes that would help the show a lot, and I will enjoy reading every single one of them.————-Episode SponsorsThanks to the following sponsors who continually support our team and the fight community, supporting our services and the resources we put out there. Redfern Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine @redfernphysioBondi Beard Co @bondi.beard.coThe Wellness Guide @wellnessguidesydneyAeona Coworking Space @aeona
