Who's Your Therapist

Mike was never someone who liked being told what to do. Growing up with learning disabilities and ADHD, he struggled through high school, until finally discovering what the admonition, “You need to apply yourself,” meant for him. When he was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of fourteen, he used this opportunity to look at things through the lens of a challenge, as opposed to tragedy. Together we explore the role humour plays in living with what he refers to as, “The war stories of illness and disability;” including, “diabetic party-tricks” from the Diabetic Talent Show. We also talk surgeries, recovery, and prescription drugs, and what to do when the hope of finding a solution seems lost.Mike has over 16 years experience working with children, adolescents and young adults with developmental disabilities, autism, and learning exceptionalities. He is also the co-founder of the research initiative Alliance of Heroes.
