Images embedded in .docx work better and have a more exactness when compressed With .DOC files, information is stored by breaking embedded images and fonts down to binary code and storing it with text and formatting all in a single large and complex file.  A negative effect of creating a standard procedure to manage file size is that there is a side effect of compressing images down to sample the image quality in the same process.  Sharp images end up looking pixelated or off-color in the end.  .DOCX is better for the structure organizes in a way for embedded objects including photos and fonts to be stored in different folders and files.  This type of compression is more advanced not taking away a photo’s quality.  Using a .ZIP extension, you can even rename the file and see them in neat, small folders.
